Hello, my name is Sherman Ng.
My background spans both business and psychotherapy.
Earlier in my career, I spent over a decade creating, leading, and managing international companies—working in environments that required decision-making, responsibility, and navigating complexity at a practical level.
In 2005, I stepped away from that path to explore something more fundamental—health, well-being, and the nature of my own experience.
That decision led to a very different direction.
Psychotherapy and Clinical Work
Over the following years, I trained and worked across a range of therapeutic approaches, including psychotherapy, somatic work, cognitive and mindfulness-based therapies, and mind–body medicine.
Together with my wife, Susan Kwok, we co-founded and ran The Peace Clinics in New Zealand and Malaysia between 2010 and 2016.
During that time, we worked closely with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and ongoing emotional stress—supporting them through a more integrated, whole-person approach.
Out of both personal experience and clinical work, we developed a structured programme for working with emotional and psychological stress, which came to be known as The Peace Process.
This work was later adopted and used by other practitioners internationally, and also applied alongside conventional medical care in collaboration with health professionals.
What Became Clear
Through all of this—business, therapy, and personal experience—one thing became increasingly clear.
Much of the struggle people carry is not simply due to circumstances or conditions.
It comes from the ongoing effort of trying to manage experience itself—thoughts, emotions, and the sense of self that feels responsible for holding everything together.
I saw this not only in others, but in my own experience.
And it became clear that adding more strategies, more thinking, or more effort did not resolve it.
A Simpler Understanding
Over time, my work began to move in a simpler direction.
Less focus on methods...and more on direct observation.
Looking carefully at experience itself began to reveal something important:
Thoughts were happening, but did not need to be followed
Emotions were present, but did not need to be controlled
The sense of “me” was there, but not as fixed as it once felt
This wasn’t a dramatic shift.
It was a quiet recognition—subtle, but deeply relieving...and it changed the relationship to everything.
Not something added, but something seen.
With this, something began to ease, a release of unnecessary tension.
Not because life became perfect, but because the effort of constantly holding it together began to soften.
Why I Do This Work Now
After stepping back from clinical practice to care for our ageing parents, this understanding continued to deepen in a quieter way.
What I now offer is not a return to structured therapy or programmes.
Not more motivation, techniques or advice, but a simpler, more honest and direct space for exploration.
This tends to resonate with people who sense there may be a more fundamental shift in how life is being experienced.
This work is an extension of that.
How I Work
My role is not to teach or to fix.
It is to offer a space where you can look clearly at your own experience.
Without pressure
Without performance
Without needing to arrive anywhere
We explore what is already present, and what may be creating unnecessary tension.
Everything unfolds through conversation, observation, and gentle inquiry.
At a pace that feels natural.
What I Bring
This work is simple—but it is supported by depth of experience.
A background in business, leadership, and decision-making
Years of psychotherapy practice across New Zealand and Malaysia
Experience working with anxiety, depression, and emotional stress
Development of an integrative therapeutic approach used by others
Experience practising alongside medical professionals in integrative care settings
Working with people across different stages of life
Navigating decisions involving uncertainty and consequence
Understanding the pressures of responsibility, both personal and financial
Living through long-term caregiving and its demands
This allows the work to remain grounded, practical, and connected to real life.
A Personal Note
I don’t see myself as someone with answers or authority over your experience.
What I offer comes from having spent time looking carefully at my own experience—both personally and professionally—and how I can help guide that same looking in your own experiences.
If anything is to be found, it will not come from what I say—but from what you come to see for yourself.
If something here feels true for you, book a complimentary session to see if we can work together.
Based in Auckland, I work with clients locally and online.
